Hussain Sajwani is a Dubai-based real estate development mogul. He is also the founder and chairman of the DAMAC Properties; a property development company he established in 2002. Born to an entrepreneurial father, Mr. Sajwani was among a few students who obtained government scholarships to study in the US. He was enrolled at University of Washington where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering and Economics.
Sajwani started his career at Abu Dhabi Gas Industries where he served in the finance department. After working for two years, he started a local catering firm known as Global logistics Services that served American soldiers in Asia along with Bechtel, a construction giant. Taking advantage of the government of Dubai decree to allow foreigners own property in UAE, Hussain Sajwani bought a piece of land in an underdeveloped part of the city. His major breakthrough came when he built his first real estate project, a 38 storey residential apartment that sold in less than 6 weeks (http://www.forbes.com/sites/kerryadolan/2016/03/01/the-donald-of-dubai-hussain-sajwani-interview/#1b049a722f15). As the DAMAC owner, he has led the company to building more than 19,000 residential apartments since its establishment.
The renowned projects completed by DAMAC Properties include two Trump-branded golf courses located in a 42 million square community that Hussain Sajwani is currently developing outside Dubai. The community also includes a section of Trump’s own villas. Mr. Hussain Sajwani’s partnership with Donald Trump goes beyond business matters, as their families have maintained a close relationship including visiting each other. Hussain Sajwani family was present during Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony, in which Trump gave a speech praising his Middle East business partner terming him as a very important person.
DAMAC Properties, under the larger DAMAC Group established in 1992, has developed Dubai into an attraction. Under Hussain Sajwani’s leadership, the company is interested in expanding to Europe and America. However, tax issues became a barrier to develop in USA, particularly when he passed on a project in Los Angeles. He will be hoping to use his relationship with the president to emphasize on his issues directly. Learn more: https://twitter.com/hussainsajwani
